Who We Are
We have been situated at our current site in Throop Road since moving from our previous site in the late 1990's to make way for housing development at Ibbertson Close/Jewell Road.
During the relocation, purpose built facilities were installed which includes a large building that houses the site shop, meeting room, storage area, kitchen area and toilets (inc. disabled).
Our site also benefits from a concrete road structure and an extensive water supply system (tanks and taps) running to almost every other plot.
Our site is rented from the local Council but self managed by an elected Committee.
The Committee sets the rents, organizes special events, orders a variety of stock for the shop, and also enforces the rules and regulations of the site. This helps to maintain a high level of cultivation, appearance and general tidiness of the plots throughout the site.
What we do
Allotments all over the UK have seen an increased interest and made a comeback over the recent decades to people of all ages and ability. Longbarrow allotments are amongst these and as a result, now have a waiting list for those who would like to have a plot of their own to produce their own home grown fruit and vegetables.
We currently have 100+ plots of different sizes, and some plotholders leave for various reasons. As they leave, we work our way through the waiting list. We also offer guided tours if you wish to visit our site.
If you are interested in having a plot, joining our waiting list or wish to visit us, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Longbarrow Allotment plotholders take pride in their allotments. They show their creativity and love of the gardening hobby by designing layouts, recycling items and working hard to produce lovely, tasty home grown crops. Some plotholders also show their produce in competitions/shows locally and in other areas attempting to win prizes.
It may seem like a lot of hard work, but most find it therapeutic and relaxing. There is also the opportunity to meet like minded friends and join in the fun we have at various events throughout the year.
At most of our events, we have a BBQ, various stalls, plant sales, refreshments and raffles with prizes galore!
We also help to raise funds for our chosen charity Julia's House.
